Replacement of Solvent Based Glazing Compounds with High Performance Water Based Acrylics

Source

Historically waterborne systems have had somewhat lower performance than most solventborne products. However, with the increased emphasis on environmental concerns and EPA mandated reduction in volatile organic content, window manufacturers are looking at alternate sealants. New advances in the waterborne acrylic polymers have led to the development of waterborne acrylic sealants with performance characteristics that meet or exceed most solvent-based systems. These sealants show excellent cold temperature flexibility, little age hardening, good U.V. resistance and excellent wet and dry adhesion. Compared to most solvent based compounds, water-based acrylics offer superior compatibility with all types of insulating glass sealants. In addition solvent emissions are eliminated and clean-up is accomplished with water only. These systems exhibit easy gunnability and application properties, and can be used on all existing gunning equipment.
