Climate Driven Durability Tester


The “Climate Driven Durability Tester” (CDDT) tests channel movement capability of caulks and sealants under exposure conditions. A wide range of % movements, channel geometries, and substrates can be studied in the CDDT. Results are reported for a series of caulks exposed in aluminum and glass channels following 3, 7, and 16 months exposure. Adhesive failures noted in the present study do not completely correlate with ASTM C794 peel adhesion test results. The inability of ASTM C794 to distinguish between viscoelastic effects and adhesive bond strength may account for its unreliable prediction of adhesive performance in the CDDT.
