Surface and Subsurface Cracks and Pores with Liquid Under Action of a Contact Load in the Presence of a Lubricant

Source

The problem for a half-plane which contains some straight surface and subsurface cracks and pores with non-compressible liquid is formulated. The half-plane boundary experiences normal and frictional stresses that are transmitted through a lubricant. The half-plane is prestressed by tensile/compressive residual stresses and the shape of cracks and pores containing a liquid changes during the contact load motion along the surface. As a result, some cavities and intervals of contacting edges are created. The cavities can be fully or partially filled with a lubricant or liquid. The boundary conditions are expressed for various configurations of the surface and subsurface cracks and pores (closed and open to lubricant tips of surface cracks, splitting and gathering cavities which are fully or partly filled with a lubricant or liquid).

These problems are reduced to systems of integro-differential equations with boundary conditions in the form of alternating equalities and inequalities and solved by means of perturbation and numerical methods.
