Defect Problems in Piezoelectric Ceramics

Source

The problem of a piezoelectric ceramic containing a defect such as a hole or crack is addressed from a two-dimensional point of view with general coupling taking place between the electrical and mechanical variables. Complex potentials are derived to describe the general electromechanical response of piezoceramics. The particular problem of a piezoelectric body containing an elliptical cavity is considered, and closed formed solutions are provided for the stresses and electric fields in the neighborhood of the hole. The case of recovering the crack-like defect problem from the elliptical hole solution is also discussed.
