Non-Destructive Determination of the Penetration Depth of Impregnation Materials

Source

For the quality control of preservation methods using impregnation materials on porous building materials it is necessary to know the penetration depths of these materials. A simple new method and equipment for the non-destructive determination of the penetration depth of impregnation materials was developed. Based on the more than thirty year old “Karsten-tube” method and making use of the correlation between the penetration depth and the impregnation material absorption per area, the new method is suitable to adequately determine the penetration depth both in laboratory and in-situ.
