Application of Accumulative Type ESR-Sensors for Determination of Intensity, Spectral Characteristics and Volume Distribution of Intense Gamma and Neutron Fields

Source

Results are presented concerning technological and scientific development of new type gamma radiation and neutron sensors based on electron spin resonance (ESR) registration method. Examples are shown on so called continual dosimetric cords (CDC) and “spectrometric garlands” applied in the destroyed Chernobyl NPP Unit-4 (1986) and also work on thermal neutron flux volume distribution measurements in several research reactors using ESR-sensors containing nuclei with (n,α) reactions producing paramagnetic centers (PMC) that are measured. Discussion is provided on these kinds of and modified ESR-sensor usage in reactor dosimetry and accompaniment in a large operating period: http://www.sandia.gov/events/isrd99.
