Evaluation of Field Water Infiltration Test Results of Windows and Sliding Glass Door Assemblies Installed in New Construction Projects

Source

This paper presents an analysis of the results of field water infiltration tests of windows and sliding glass door assemblies that were conducted within the last five years. In all cases, the tests were conducted during the new construction process.

The tests were performed using ASTM Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Installed Exterior Windows, Curtain Walls, and Doors by Uniform or Cyclic Static Air Pressure Difference (E 1105). The results show a majority of windows and sliding glass door assemblies fail initial field water infiltration tests, which is compelling evidence that these tests are prudent as part of a new construction process.
