Development of Process Capability and Testing Techniques for the Production of Bearing Steels

Source

A number of metallurgical measures have been carried out within the last 10 years to improve process capability and reduce roduction costs for the production of bearing steels. Examples of improved metallurgical techniques are the composition control of the top slag and the consistent development of continuous casting techniques. As a result, bearing steel characteristics such as oxygen- and titanium content as well as macrocleanness show a continuous improvement within the last years. New efforts have been made to improve volumetric testing of macrocleanness and characterize the size, distribution and composition of nonmetallic inclusions.
