Evaluation of Water Resistance Testing Problems for Installed Facade Systems

Source

The use of hose testing as a field check for water penetration of installed ssemblies has gained popularity throughout the construction industry because of its simplicity. This paper will detail the use of hose testing methods, variations of the procedure, intended application, and limitations. This information will be compared to ASTM E 1105 “Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Installed Exterior Windows, Curtain Walls, and Doors by Uniform of Cyclic Static Air Pressure Difference.” A comparison of test results will allow the reader to evaluate the accuracy of hose testing procedures and to determine whether it is a reliable method of evaluating product performance. This paper will also detail variations in the use of ASTM E 1105 including application of the test procedure to wall assemblies of masonry, EIFS, and others.
