Cross-Country Skiing Injuries in the Czech Republic During the 2003−2010 Period

Source

The Czech mountains are suitable for performing winter sports, mostly cross-country and alpine skiing. Unlike higher mountain ranges, most cross-country ski trails run on the crest of the mountain ridges. It is possible to record steep and long downhill runs on maintained and sometimes icy trails. We monitored injuries treated by the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) in seven mountain ranges comprising the 600 km natural border of the Czech Republic. There are 10 × 106 participants per season. The injury rate for cross-country skiers was 0.1 per 1000 participants per day.
