New Guide for Guide for Selection and Use of Air Barriers in Membrane Roof Systems.

1. Scope

1. Scope
1.1 This Guide provides guidance for the design and selection of air barrier materials within membrane roofing systems and methodologies for determining the use of air barriers placed at/or near the interior conditioned space/structural deck, and generally below the roofing system, assembly to prevent air intrusion into the roofing system. These may be called dedicated air barriers.

1.2 Methods to evaluate air barrier types, performance criteria, installation, and location within low slope roofing systems as determined by in-service conditions and the desired performance of the roofing system are identified within this Guide.

Keywords

dedicated air barrier, air intrusion, air leakage, air infiltration, roof assemblies, roof systems

Rationale

There is currently no ASTM standard specifically addressing air barriers in roofs and how to select the appropriate materials, s and placement of air barriers for specific applications , geographic locations, and building occupancies in low slope membrane roofs. The targeted audience/users of this guide would be those selecting, designing, installing or approving such materials and systems as air barriers for low slope roofing systems.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
