New Test Method for Measuring micropitting of lubricants using a 3 disk on central roller rolling micropitting rig (MPR)

1. Scope

This method is designed to evaluate the micropitting performance of currently available and future lubricant formulations. Tests have been performed tests using 3 rings rotating against a rotating central roller configuration using a commercially available Micropitting Rig (MPR).

Keywords

fatigue

Rationale

With the increasing pressures put on lubricants under high stresses in bearings in wind turbines and other indistrial settings, a quantifiable measurement of the micropitting damage would be of great benefit to the lubricant industry to be able to enable lubricant formulators the ability to quickly screen the effect of changes to formulations to help imrpove micropitting performance.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
