New Test Method for Determining the Rate of Capillary "Wicking" within Geosysnthetics

1. Scope

1.1 This test method is used to determine the wicking capability within geosynthetics. The method is applicable to all geosynthetics and is used to determine a rate of capillary wicking.
1.2 The method covers the measurement of liquid transport on a specimen of known cross section as it is exposed to Distilled Deionized Deaired (DDD) water at a known temperature and pressure.
1.3 The value stated in SI units will be considered as standard. The English Imperial units stated in parenthesis are provided for information only.

Keywords

Capillary, wicking, suction

Rationale

New Test Method to access capillary rise in geosynthetic. Currently there is no standard method to access suction capability in geosynthetics

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
