ASTM WK81680

Revision of F1973-21 Standard Specification for Factory Assembled Anodeless Risers and Transition Fittings in Polyethylene (PE) and Polyamide 11 (PA11) and Polyamide 12 (PA12) Fuel Gas Distribution Systems

Rationale

ASTM F412 defines the thermoplastic pipe material designation as:
code, thermoplastic pipe material designation— letters and
ciphers for the designation of stress-rated thermoplastic
compound, which consists of two or more characters to
indicate the abbreviation as listed in Terminology D1600, for
the type of thermoplastic resin—followed by four or five
Arabic numerals—two or three to describe the short-term
properties, in accordance with the ASTM standard being
referenced, and two to designate the hydrostatic design stress
when tested in water at 73°F (23°C) in units of 100 psi, with
any decimal figures dropped.
Currently the F1973 specification states:
8.1 Transition fittings and anodeless risers shall be marked as follows:...
8.1.2 The PE piping’s designation in accordance with Specification D2513 in the following example format – PE3408 CDC.
The issue is that the requirement is for the PE piping designation which is PE3408 (see definition above) but the example also includes the elevated temperature service category CDC which is in addition to the thermoplastic pipe material designation.
In section 8.1.2 the elevated temperature service category CDC is being removed from the example and the sentence will read; The PE piping’s designation in accordance with Specification D2513 (e.g. PE3408)
In section 8.1.3 the elevated temperature service category EF is being removed from the example and the sentence will read; The PA 11 piping’s designation in accordance with Specification F1945 (e.g. PA32312).
In section 8.1.4 the elevated temperature service category EG is being removed from the example and the sentence will read; The PA 12 piping’s designation in accordance with Specification F2785 (e.g. PA42316).
