Subcommittee E08.06 has been working on revisions to Standard E647. However, the significant reorganization of the standard has met with some resistance and subcommittee ballots have failed to pass. As a result, the subcommittee was polled to determine a path forward and it was determined to ballot several very targeted modifications first and after resolving these proposed modifications more comprehensive modifications can be addressed.
These revisions contain several modifications that have been discussed in taskgroup meetings to improve the clarity of the standard, fix editorial mistakes, and to ensure the terminology is consistent with current practices. To properly evaluate these proposed modifications, a total of six items were detailed initially. Three items received negative votes during a March 2021 ballot. Based on feedback, two items have been revised and are being resubmitted for ballot at this time. The revisions being put forward at this time are:
1) Inclusion of the Johnson’s equation for the C(T) and ESE(T) specimens (see Sections A1.5.3.2 and A3.5.3)
2) Addition of beveled holes for use with the C(T) and ESE(T) specimens (see Sections A1.2.7 and A.3.2.4)
