Revision of D8290-20 Standard Test Method for Determination of Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME) in Aviation Turbine Fuel using Mid-Infrared Laser Spectroscopy

Rationale

Rationale for Revision
During the approval process of D8290, a negative was received based on a possible interference of triglycerides (i.e., vegetable oils or animal fats) not mentioned in the test method. A subsequent ballot that included the measurement of triglycerides and unconverted esters or fatty acids from lipid co-hydroprocessing was withdrawn due to lack of experimental data. The original negative voter agreed to a delay in the inclusion of language regarding triglycerides upon the provision that this information will be added to the test method after it has been published and more data are available.
This ballot proposes to include the requested information on triglycerides and unconverted esters and fatty acids to Sections 3, 5 and 6 of the test method. Further discussion and supporting data can be found in the two new non-mandatory appendices X1.1 and X1.2. A detailed research report on this subject matter is attached to this ballot for further information.
