1.1 The purpose of this test method is to collect continuous, quantitative temperature measurements using infrared sensors of plant produced asphalt mixtures. The infrared sensors are typically made with robust components and have a wide range of operation. Infrared sensors are placed where they can measure plant produced mixture temperatures in a continuous fashion. The production range of temperatures of asphalt mixtures can range from 100°C to 190°C (200°F to 375°F).
1.2 The temperature data collection is collected in the field at the asphalt mixture plant site using infrared sensor technologies.
asphalt; asphalt mix production; continuous temperature measurement
This test method is used to make continuous temperature measurements of asphalt mix produced in a production facility. Accurate and continuous temperature measurements ensure users of production conditions of the asphalt mixture. Many situations occur when producing asphalt mixtures can require close attention to the temperature of a mixture, for example, when using warm mix additives or when producing a balanced mix design, it may be imperative to use lower production temperatures.
Quick temperature reading response times using infrared technology can improve operator plant control though reduced waste, less energy usage, less rejected hot or cold loads and improved loader operations
