Revision of E6-15e4 Standard Terminology Relating to Methods of Mechanical Testing
Rationale
Delete the term “fatigue ductility,” which is attributed to subcommittee E28.02, from E6.
Delete the term “fracture ductility,” which is not attributed to any subcommittee, from E6.
The phrase “fatigue ductility” is only defined and appears in E796, which was withdrawn in 2009.
The third “Discussion” limits its general use, and shows that the definition was intended as a “Term specific to this standard,” rather than a general term.
It does not appear in the title of E796.
The phrase “fracture ductility” appears only once in all E28 standards, and only as part of the second “Discussion” in the definition of “fracture ductility.”
