Revision of E6-15e4 Standard Terminology Relating to Methods of Mechanical Testing
Rationale
Delete the term, “calibration,” which is attributed to subcommittee E28.91, from E6.
This action will not remove the E28.01 and E28.06 definitions of calibration from E6.
E6 contains three definitions of “calibration” attributed to E28.01, E28.06, and E28.91
In 2020, E28.01 balloted and adopted the definition of calibration from the International Vocabulary of Metrology (VIM), produced by the BIPM (available here: https://www.bipm.org/en/committees/jc/jcgm/publications)
Because the existing E28.91 definition was meant to embody the principles of the definition from the VIM, the presence of the actual definition from the VIM makes the E28.91 definition superfluous.
