Revision of E6-15e4 Standard Terminology Relating to Methods of Mechanical Testing
Rationale
Delete the term, “nominal stress,” which is attributed to subcommittee E28.91, from E6.
The phrase “nominal stress” is not defined in any E28 standard.
The phrase “nominal stress” appears one time in all E28 standards, in the E855-21 definition of the term “bending stress at the outer fiber,” which is a term specific to E855-21. That definition is for a stress that is not calculated on “the net cross section.”
