New Guide for Assessing Fit and Accommodation of Exoskeletons for Manufacturers and Designers

1. Scope

This guide is intended to assist the manufacturer in communicating issues regarding fit and accommodation of exoskeletons. The manufacturer should specify the population for which the exoskeleton was designed so that the user may select the appropriate exoskeleton for the intended use. This would include suggested language for identifying and clearly communicating relevant metrics regarding the fit and adjustment factors for their system, especially in regard to who can safely use the system. Appendices provide suggestions on suitable databases for determining population accommodation.

Keywords

anthropometry; accommodation; population accommodation; fit; comfort; static anthropometry; dynamic anthropometry

Rationale

Assist manufacturers to effectively communicate information regarding the population for whom the exoskeletons is designed, including terminology or language to assist users in choosing the appropriate exoskeleton.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
