Revision of E2601-15 Standard Practice for Radiological Emergency Response

Rationale

This practice currently provides decision-making considerations for response to incidents that involve radioactive materials. It provides information and guidance for what to include in response planning, and what activities to conduct during a response. This practice applies to those emergency response agencies that have a role in the response to a radiological incident, excluding the radiological consequences of a nuclear detonation. It should be used in emergency services response such as law enforcement, fire department, and emergency medical response actions. 1.2 This update addresses new radiation protection methods and controls designed for emergency responders and public protection. This will include, at minimum, the inclusion of or improvements in: preparation and execution of radiological response planning, communications plans, consideration for nuclear detonations, responder and emergency worker dosimetry methods, responder actions following a RDD and nuclear detonation, using preventative radiological and nuclear detectors for emergency public protection and contamination control, medical treatment priorities in radiological environments, sheltering guidance, protective action guidance on drinking water, and recommendations to protect responder health information during an emergency response.
