New Guide for Restricted Substances Contained in Materials Used to Manufacture Herbal Product Vaporizers

1. Scope

Proposed Scope: This standard shall specify restricted substances, banned substances and reportable limits of specific substances used or contained in materials used in the manufacture of component parts for Cannabis/Hemp Extract Vaporizers intended for inhalation. This standard shall specify restricted substances, banned substances and reportable limits of specific substances used or contained in secondary coating materials applied to or used in the manufacture of component parts for Cannabis/Hemp Extract Vaporizers intended for inhalation. This standard will cover the various categories of materials; plastics, metals; alloys; glass; ceramics or other composite like materials created, manufactured, or formulated for component parts used and assembled in Cannabis/Hemp Extract Vaporizers. This standard will cover both functional and non-functional vaporizer component parts used in the design, manufacture and assembly of Cannabis/Hemp Flower Vaporizers. This standard will cover component parts for contact material for Cannabis/Hemp Extract intended for inhalation by various heating type technologies including, conduction, convection, induction, radiant or combination heating types. This standard will encompass both functional and non-functional vaporizer component part materials that may come into direct contact or indirect contact via human touch that may cause or result in allergic reaction and other health altering effects. Units The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Rationale

Currently, there are no standards for restricted, banned or reportable limits for substances in materials or coatings used in the manufacture of component parts for Cannabis/Hemp Flower Vaporizers intended for inhalation. There is a growing consumer safety risk of not having such a standard to direct cannabis device manufacturers to or consumers to be informed or both. This standard will be used to provide clarity to the industry, government, consumers and the general public to understand regulation of restricted, banned and reportable limits of substances that are present in materials and coatings used in the manufacture of Cannabis/Hemp Flower vaporizers. Furthermore, consumers of Cannabis/Hemp Flower vaporizers can be assured that their devices are made with components that meet a minimum regulated requirements of substances and level of safety for industry standardization for both functional and non-functional vaporizer component parts that come into direct contact or indirect contact of human touch and that may cause or result in allergic reaction or other health altering effects. Lastly device manufacturers can use this standard as a reference for materials, coatings and substances to avoid when creating new devices on the basis of ergonomic, human and functional safety.
