Rationale for Revision: Ballot F24 (20-03) Item 6, Work Order WK73188 made the following change to F2291-20 Section 7.1.4.7 (1): Original wording 7.1.4.7 These limits are provided for the following basic restraints types: (1) Base Case (Class-4 or -5 Restraint)For the purpose of acceleration limits the Class-4 restraint used as the base case herein also provides support to the lower body in all directions and maintains patron contact with the seat at all times. Balloted wording - 7.1.4.7 These limits are provided for the following basic restraints types: (1) Base Case (Class-4 or -5 Restraint)For the purpose of acceleration limits the Class-4 restraint used as the base case herein also provides support to the lower body in all directions and maintains patron contact with the patron containment system. This ballot passed mostly because it was better than the original language. However, excellent comments were received from David Althoff, Jay Crisler, Liz Diaz, and Richard Wand. These comments all centered on the following: In practice the base case restraint has a little wiggle room and it is not possible maintain contact at all times. Based on this feedback and discussions with the F24.24 Acceleration Task Group, the following language is being proposed. This ballot will revise Section 7.1.4.7 (1) to the following (clean copy): 7.1.4.7 These limits are provided for the following basic restraints types: (1) Base Case (Class-4 or -5 Restraint)For the purpose of acceleration limits, the base case Class-4 or Class-5 restraint in conjunction with other elements of the containment system provides support to the lower body in all directions. It is acceptable for the patron to change contact points with the containment system during acceleration reversals or near 0 g vertical acceleration events as long as the base case restraint / patron containment system maintains acceptable containment of the patron per the Patron Restraint and Containment Analysis.
