New Practice for Implementing a Cannabis Transportation Program in a Cannabis Operation

1. Scope

This practice covers recommendations for implementing a Transportation Security program to protect businesses operating in the regulated cannabis industry. Pertaining to cannabis transportation for any legal business entity that handles transportation of cannabis products, including cultivation, processing, manufacturing, transportation, warehousing, lab testing, distribution and waste disposal. Actual implementation will vary depending on organization size and type, volume, risk tolerance and resource constraints of the organization, and mandates particular to the organization and authorities having jurisdiction.

Rationale

This practice provides the essential elements to establish and manage a transportation security program for cannabis businesses. The primary goals of a transportation security program are to present broad measures to deter, detect, prevent and protect personnel against harm and safeguard facility, equipment, product, currency and currency equivalent from illegal access, theft, loss, and damage. Secure transportation is an important aspect of any anti-diversion, staff safety and product safety program.
