Rationale

This Hemp Fiber Initiative is a collaboration between D13.17 on Bast Fibers and D37.07 on Industrial Hemp.

Our goal is to develop test methods and practices for measuring the physical and chemical properties of cellulosic-based natural fibers of a Cannabis sativa L. plant.

Two types of documents are intended to be developed:
1. Practices (or Test Methods) for Rapid Assessment of Fiber Properties;
and
2. Test Methods for Quantitative/Instrumentational Assessment of Fiber Properties.

One set is intended to be quick and cheap and provide a spot check for various properties of consequence. The other set is intended to be more accurate and thus more expensive either through equipment purchases or testing services.

From this effort, a "living" list of properties of consequence and practices and test methods for their assessment shall be created.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
