The current scope of the Thin Brick standard specification includes a maximum thickness of 1-3/4 in. Current IBC provisions limit solid brick (ASTM C216) to a minimum thickness of 2-5/8 in. with a minimum thin brick thickness of in. The proposed change provides definitive size limitations in line with the IBC provisions and other adhered veneer materials and is an attempt to resolve prior negative votes. Without this change, units greater than 1-3/4 and less than 2-5/8 were neither thin brick nor facing brick. Limiting the thickness to 1-3/4 inch is not necessary in ASTM C1088. This change is made to align this standard with other material standards. Thickness limitations for specific wall system requirements and/or installation practices should not be limited in the material standard itself. Alternate wall systems, such as precast applications, may allow thicker and or heavier units.
