New Practice for Determination of Wear and Contamination in Grease, by Rotating Disc Electrode Spectroscopy

1. Scope

This practice is intended to provide a standardized method for grease sample preparation and introduction into an optical emission spectrometer.

Keywords

grease analysis; optical emission spectroscopy; rotating disc electrode spectroscopy

Rationale

Grease analysis by OES is a common practice used by oil analysis laboratories around the world. To date, there is no standardized method for preparation and introduction of the representative grease sample into the spectrometer. Therefore, unless using the same method each time, results are not consistent. This practice is intended to provide a standardized method for grease sample preparation and introduction into an optical emission spectrometer to ensure all laboratories are using the same methodology.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
