Revision of C1556-11a(2016) Standard Test Method for Determining the Apparent Chloride Diffusion Coefficient of Cementitious Mixtures by Bulk Diffusion

Rationale

Add a new Note 2 after 5.1 to allow for testing drilled cores from concrete that has been previously exposed to chlorides because this is already being done after removal of the chloride contaminated layer. Revise 8.3 by adding a new 8.3.1, providing Figure 3A, and adding a new Note 7 to remove the outer 10 mm of drilled cores or cast specimens to provide for more consistent paste content of the tested surface (and to be consistent with Nordtest NT Build 443). At formed of finished outer surfaces, the paste content will be higher and that will influence the near-surface concentration of chlorides measured after ponding. Nd have undue influence on the chloride profiles and fitted diffusion coefficients. Revise 8.3 by adding a new 8.3.2, providing Figure 3B and adding a new Note 8 to provide an option for testing drilled cores taken from structures previously exposed to chlorides by discarding the chloride contaminated outer layer, Revise 8.3 by adding a new 8.3.3, providing a new Figure 3C and adding a new Note 9 to remove the outer 10 mm of drilled cores or cast specimens to provide for more consistent paste content of the tested surface (and to be consistent with Nordtest NT Build 443).
