There have been reports of building inspectors shutting down work due to the use of C652 brick in a structural application, stating that the brick are not structural. This is counter to the intended use of C652 brick in many applications. Review of the scope language for C216 and C652 found an inconsistency. Section 1.1 of C216 states that it covers brick intended for use in masonry and supplying structural or facing components, or both, to the structure. C652 has no mention of brick as a structural component. The intent of this proposal is to modify the existing scope to include structural applications using language similar to C216 to pre-empt further confusion about the use of C652 brick as well as to better align the language of C652 with C216.
