Revision of D3241-20a Standard Test Method for Thermal Oxidation Stability of Aviation Turbine Fuels

Rationale

This ballot is being proposed to modify the requirements around cooling the instrumentation during a test. At the 22 June 2020, D3241 General Improvement Task Force meeting, AD Systems reported on several suggested improvements for ASTM D3241. As described in Annex A5, cooling of the bus bars is a critical component of ensuring the proper temperature profile is maintained across the heater tube. The method currently describes a number of vague requirements surrounding this cooling requirement, which do not match the design of several instruments listed on Table 1. Upon investigation, there are differences in the cooling fluids specified by instrument manufacturers. This ballot seeks to modify the cooling language to properly account for the different cooling fluids used today. This ballot was approved at the July 2020 ASTM Subcommittee J03 meeting held virtually on July 8, 2020.
