ASTM WK72491

Revision of E662-19 Standard Test Method for Specific Optical Density of Smoke Generated by Solid Materials

Rationale

This ballot updates the language regarding testing on both sides. A user pointed out that many, if not most, materials tested are homogeneous, and the current language could be interpreted to mean both sides must be tested, which makes no sense in that case, or the case of symmetrical assemblies. This ballot replaces the current language with language from E1995, another smoke chamber test method. This makes it clear that testing on both sides is only required if the sides are actually different (and both could be exposed in a fire).
