New Specification for the Safety of Targeted Individuals During Deployment of Less Lethal Impact Devices used by Law Enforcement

1. Scope

1. Scope 1.1 This specification covers performance requirements for torso protection during the deployment of Less Lethal Impact Devices (LLID) by Law Enforcement. This deployment typically takes place in both indoor or outdoor environments where the temperature can be variable. This specification recognizes the desirability of compliance using pain however without the occurrence of serious injury. The focus of this standard is specific to the assessment of blunt and penetrating trauma. It does not address the safety of any chemical payload of an LLID. 1.2 Partial utilization of this standard is prohibited. Any statement of compliance with this specification shall be a certification that the product meets all of the requirements of the specification in its entirety. A product that fails to meet any one of the requirements of this specification is considered to have failed the specification, and shall not be distributed or sold with any indication that it meets parts of the specification. 1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
