The purview of Committee E35 is the development of standard definitions, classifications, appropriate test methods, and recommended practices relating to efficacy, safety, quality, and impact in appropriate environments of pesticides, antiseptic and antimicrobial agents, biological agents, devices, and equipment.
These activities will be coordinated with the interests of related Committees in ASTM, and with other professional and governmental organizations.
contamination; staphylococcus aureus; touch-transfer
The standard fills a gap that exists in quantifying the transfer of microbes to surfaces through contact. This test method was designed to: 1. mimic the natural transmission of microbes, 2. straightforward, with minimal training necessary 3. use materials that are inexpensive and available worldwide, 4. quantitative and reproducible. This test method can be used by anyone wishing to evaluate the touch-transfer of microbes or any surface that claims to limit microbial transfer.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
