New Practice for Standard Practice for Assessing Rolled Erosion Control Product Functional Longevity

1. Scope

2.1 The scope of the Committee shall be the formulation of test methods, specifications, guides, practices, terminology, and the dissemination of knowledge dealing with geosynthetics. This would include but not be limited to geotextiles, geogrids, drainage nets, drainage composites, geosynthetic clay liners, geosynthetic erosion control products and sediment retention devices, geosynthetic strips, geofoam and geomembranes.
2.2. The formulation of test methods, specifications, guides, practices and terminology for Geosynthetic related products shall be considered by the Committee by establishment of special subcommittees approved by the Executive Subcommittee.
2.3 The work of this Committee will be coordinated with other ASTM committees or organizations having mutual interest.

Keywords

durability, aging, lifetime

Rationale

Rolled erosion control products are typically selected based partially on how long they will continue to perform their intended function, yet no objective, quantifiable approach exists to determine a product's "functional longevity".

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
