Revision of E1142-15 Standard Terminology Relating to Thermophysical Properties

Keywords

None Provided

Rationale

The following change is proposed to the term thermal effusivity in Terminology E1142 to remove to a discussion the orphaned mathematical equivalence. This is consistent with sections E4.4 and A7.2.2 of the Form and Style of ASTM Standards that calls for a definition to be a single sentence with additional information following in a discussion. Thermal effusivity , e e, n a measure of a materials ability to exchange thermal energy with its surroundings. Discussion Thermal effusivity is related to thermal conductivity (), density (), specific heat capacity (cp), and thermal diffusivity (a)by: e = ( cp)1/2 = /a1/2 (12)
