New Test Method for Standard Test Method for Determination of Mass Concentration of Particulate Matter from Light Duty Vehicles (Gravimetric Method)

1. Scope

This test method covers the gravimetric determination of particulate matter collected onto filter media from diluted light duty vehicle exhaust in concentrations below 10 mg/mile.

Keywords

Particulate, emissions, FTP, gravimetric, mg/mile.

Rationale

Recently both the US EPA and California ARB adopted new PM emissions standards for light duty vehicles starting in model year 2017. As part of the implementation of these new standards EPA has made regulatory revisions to update the test methods. Various portions of this test method are located in different places in Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 40, Parts 86, 1065 & 1066. This standard will group this text into once location, improve wording and flow, and facilitate an Inter-Laboratory Study.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
