New Test Method for Standard Test Method of Automated Surrogate Tests for Asphalt Performance (ASAP) using a Rheometer

1. Scope

The scope of the Committee shall be the promotion of knowledge, stimulation of research, and the development of standards pertaining to asphalt materials used in pavements, asphalt surface treatments, aggregates used in asphalt mixtures, graded aggregate used in bases or subbases, and to other materials, products, systems, and services incidental to all types of highway and transportation construction and maintenance. The types of standards developed include, but are not limited to, specifications, test methods, practices, guides, and terminology.

The work of this Committee will be coordinated with other ASTM committees and other organizations having mutual interest.
The activities shall be coordinated with other ASTM Committees when necessary.
The area of interest of the Committee is materials used in the construction and maintenance of highways, and other transportation construction.

Rationale

ASAP standard is needed for safer, faster, and more practical determination of asphalt binder performance properties. ASAP can be used for quality control, quality acceptance , and design. The users of ASAP are government and private agencies in the field of asphalt.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
