New Test Methods for Resistance of Materials Used in Protective Clothing to Penetration by Liquids Under Increasing Hydrostatic Pressure
1. Scope
This Committee will develop standard specifications, test methods, practices, guides, terminology, and classifications for protective clothing and related personal protective equipment (PPE) designed and constructed to protect the user from potential occupational hazards. Where applicable, this committee will also develop the requirements for conformity assessment of protective clothing and related personal protective equipment. This Committee will coordinate its efforts with other ASTM Committees and outside organizations having mutual interests.

Rationale
Government agencies need a new standard to evaluate aging of protective clothing stock piles; Researchers need a continuous hydrostatic test to evaluate subtle differences in liquid and viral penetration; manufacturers need a continuous hydrostatic test to improve garment design and to provide efficient quality control testing.
