New Guide for Standard Guide for Size and Shape of Solid Particles, Droplets and Gas Bubbles in Dynamic Liquid And Gas Streams Using a Direct Particle Imaging Analyzer.

1. Scope

The promotion of knowledge, the stimulation of research, and the development of recommended practices and general methods for characterizing solid and liquid particles. Standard specifications for apparatus and techniques required for such purposes shall be promulgated.
The Committee will coordinate related methods and specifications that are under the jurisdiction of other technical committees so as to promote uniformity in methods of particle size measurement. The Committee will also cooperate with other standardization bodies in the pursuit of national and international uniformity in standards and methods for particle size measurement.
The Committee shall be concerned with all aspects of particle size measurement.

Rationale

Standard is needed to provide information to industry on an emerging technology. USers will be those interested in determining particle size and shape in a wide range of applications including monitoring of crystallization growth in batch processes, detection of contamination in fuels and lubricating oils, discernment of particles by type and shape due to visual analysis.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
