1.1 This test method describes the process for in-situ assessment of sand detachment rate coefficient for the evaluation of erosion potential with depth by using a device called an in-situ erosion evaluation probe (ISEEP). The proposed approach is based on applying a vertical water jet and monitoring the rate of advancement of the jetting probe. The device is intended for use in the field at sites with cohesionless soil deposits that are difficult to sample in an undisturbed manner. The testing process and the data reduction approach provide parameters for the determination of the erodibility of soil. 1.2 The jet flow velocity and the advancement rate of the probe are correlated with an induced stream power value and are used to estimate soil erodibility parameter in terms of a detachment rate coefficient. 1.3UnitsThe values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.4This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
