The purpose of this test method, as a part of a suite of Sensing test methods, is to quantitatively evaluate a remotely teleoperated robots capability of match the colors that are displayed on the OCU with the original colors. The apparatus associated with this test method challenges specific robot capabilities in repeatable ways to facilitate direct comparison of different robot models as well as particular configurations of similar robot models. The suite of sensing test methods quantifies a corresponding set of elemental capabilities necessary for ground robot response applications. As such, the suite should be used collectively to capture the overall sensing performance. The suite of the test methods involves robotic tasks that are associated with this proposed standard along with video acuity, audio acuity, point and focus camera, transmission latency effects. Additional test methods will be developed within the suite to fully address robot sensing capabilities requirements. The apparatuses associated with this test method will be standardized by adopting a color set that would be validated as best applicable. Systems with assistive capabilities or autonomous behaviors are not specifically rewarded in the performance metrics. However, any associated demonstration of improved operator/robot performance, efficiency, and/or survivability under test will be captured.

These test methods were developed due to the needs from response operations. However, they may be applicable to other application domains. They can be used for the associated training purposes. They can provide practice tasks that exercise robotic control, including on actuators, sensors, and operator control units (OCUs). They can also provide capability objectives for the corresponding subsystems on the robots.
