New Test Method for Standard Test Method for Determination of Strontium-89 and Strontium-90 in Water by Cerenkov Counting

1. Scope

This test method covers the determination of radiostrontium in water samples (for example, drinking, non-process, and effluent waters) with concentrations of 0.37 Bq/L (10 pCi/L) for 89Sr and 0.037 Bq/L (1 pCi/L) for 90Sr, or greater.

Keywords

radioactive strontium; radioactivity; radiochemistry

Rationale

This standard meets a need in the industry for a robust method for determining Sr-89 and Sr-90 in samples using a technology for which no standard methods currently exist.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
