New Test Method for Determination of Dedusting Agents of Calcined Petroleum Coke by Thermogravimetric Analysis

1. Scope

1.1 This test method covers the determination of the amount of dedusting agent added to calcined petroleum coke by thermogravimetric analysis of a crushed sample.
1.2 Agents are added to calcined petroleum coke, typically at the calcining facility, to reduce dusting during subsequent handling. Agents are usually petroleum based, and can vary as to molecular weight, viscosity, flash point, etc.
1.3 The results are stated as a percentage of the total sample weight.
1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Keywords

dedust oil

Rationale

There is presently no method for the the thermogravimetric determination of dedusting agents added to calcined coke. The only method on the books to date uses chemical washing (methylene chloride) to make the determination.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
