ASTM International Honors Vito Florimonte with John Haas Memorial Award

ASTM International Committee F25 on Ships and Marine Technology has honored Vito Florimonte, retired senior engineer and program manager, Bolt Beranek and Newman (now BBN Technologies) in Arlington, Va., with the John Haas Memorial Award. The award recognizes Florimonte's outstanding leadership and enthusiastic service as chairman of Subcommittee F25.02 on Insulation/Processes.

Florimonte lives in Vienna, Va., and is active in St. Mark's Catholic Church of Vienna and the Santa Maria Council of the Knights of Columbus, where he is past grand knight of Council 4654.

An ASTM International member since 1982, Florimonte serves on F25.02 and several other F25 subcommittees. He is also a member of ASTM Committees C16 on Thermal Insulation and F03 on Gaskets.

During his engineering career, Florimonte developed an expertise in underwater acoustics and worked on noise control issues related to U.S. Navy ships and submarines. He was also involved with materials engineering applications for shipbuilding programs; developed new shipbuilding materials; and helped prepare U.S. Navy and ASTM specifications and standards.

Florimonte previously was a member of the Acoustical Society of America and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.
