Ralph Cherrillo has received the George V. Dyroff Award of Honorary Membership from ASTM International Committee D02 on Petroleum Products, Liquid Fuels and Lubricants. Cherrillo is recently retired from Shell Technology Co. in Houston, Texas.

The Dyroff Award is presented for outstanding achievement in the field of petroleum products and lubricants. Committee D02 presented the award to Cherrillo for his many accomplishments over the course of his distinguished career, and his contributions to ASTM standards development since he joined in 1996. The committee has honored him in the past, with the Lowrie B. Sargent Jr. Award in 2013 and the D02 Award of Excellence in 2011.

Cherrillo is a graduate of the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He was a research engineer at ARCO Petroleum Products Co. in Harvey, Illinois, and Sunoco Research & Development in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before joining Shell Technology in 1990. He held the title of principal engineer when he retired from Shell this year.

Outside ASTM, Cherrillo is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Petroleum Institute, Order of the Engineer, the Society of Automotive Engineers and Tau Beta Pi - the Engineering Honor Society.
