Residual Properties of XD TMT Bars after Exposure to Elevated Temperatures

CODEN: JTEVAB

Abstract

This article describes an experimental investigation carried out to study the influence of elevated temperatures on the residual mechanical properties of extra ductile hot-rolled XD 500 TMT deformed bars. The experimental study involved heated residual tests carried out on Extra Ductile (XD) Thermo-Mechanically Treated bars (TMT) rebar specimens after being exposed to various temperatures, such as 200°C, 400°C, 600°C, 800°C, 900°C, and 1,000°C, and subsequently cooling down to ambient conditions. A detailed description of the test results, observations, and discussion on results obtained from the testing, including comparisons with the available information in the existing relevant literature with particular emphasis on the influence of high temperature on ductility of extra ductile hot-rolled XD 500 TMT deformed bars has been presented. The results suggest better thermal performance of XD TMT over ordinary TMT and conventional hot-rolled rebars in terms of the aspects of mechanical response after exposure to elevated temperatures. The outcomes of this study have direct implications on the procedures used for predicting the ultimate behavior of structural elements during and following exposure to elevated temperatures.
