Isochronous Relaxation Curves for Type 304 Stainless Steel After Monotonic and Cyclic Strain



Relaxation tests to 100 h were performed on Type 304 stainless steel in the temperature range 480 to 650°C and were used to develop isochronous relaxation curves. Behavior after monotonic and cyclic strain was compared. Relaxation differed only slightly as a consequence of the type of previous strain, provided that plastic flow preceded the relaxation period. We observed that the short-time relaxation behavior did not manifest strong heat-to-heat variation.
