Foot Measurement Strategies for Fitting Athletes

Last development in the shoe industry has historically been a craft practiced by skilled artisans. Although satisfactory fit has been established over the years for the general population, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to evaluate if the fit is “optimal” for a specific group of athletes. Two development projects, supported by case studies, are reported which demonstrate improvements in the traditional approach to last design, and the resulting fit for shoes built on the lasts.
