A Simple Method for Fatigue Precracking Specimens for Fracture Mechanics Tests

Abstract

The most time-consuming part of fracture mechanics testing is often the fatigue precracking of test specimens. This technical note describes the design and operation of a newly developed simple machine for precracking compact and bend specimens by a quick and inexpensive method.
